Dear every lawyer I’ve ever met, and a handful of others,

On Friday 21 August 2015, I will be proud to launch Precedent Pool – a platform for lawyers to buy and sell legal precedents.

Precedent Pool has been in the making for more than 10 years, conceived by me, in the shadow of a lead smelter, when I was working at a community legal centre in Port Pirie.  (Note: the idea was conceived after hours.)

I’ve come a long way since then – 1,226 kms to be exact – with forays into comedy, championship Monopoly, and multiple births... but Precedent Pool is a venture that might actually make me some money.  That’s the idea anyway: money for me, and money for the hard-pressed, over-worked, intellectual-property-creating, but leverage-overlooking, lawyers of the world.

The idea of Precedent Pool is that lawyers can upload legal precedents they have created, and sell their precedents to other lawyers.  Precedent Pool takes half of the licence fee, and the contributing lawyer receives the other half.

The beauty of Precedent Pool is that it is designed to enable users to compare precedents before making a decision to purchase.  Most precedent websites offer only one version of any document, and you never know if it is going to be any good until you buy it.  Precedent Pool is geared towards having multiple precedents in each category so users can compare precedents and select the document that most suits their needs.

Precedent Pool will be launched at Sinch Launchpad on Friday 21 August 2015.  I will be giving a short demo of Precedent Pool during the conference (which runs from 12:30pm) and we will have a launch party after the conference at 5pm at the Sydney Room, Level 2, City Tatts Club, 194 Pitt Street, Sydney.

Come to the conference or join us for a drink at 5pm to celebrate the launch of Precedent Pool.
